If you go to school in Australia, you would probably have a chaplain, even if you are at a state school.
Well every week our Chaplain puts up a “quote of the week”, usually something about Jesus loving you and stuff. Generally I ignore these things, despite my deep sense of unease about having a chaplain in a state school.
But today I simply could not.
I mean, look at this. School is supposed to be a place where young people can mature and learn in a safe and nurturing environment. It should work as a tool to right the inequalities in our society, not to perpetuate some dogma. We should be building a united, diverse environment based on love and solidarity. Not this.
The sign was taken down after several students complained, but that is not the point. The problem isn’t the sign. The sign is a symptom of a sickness.
I thought I would share, simply because I thought you folks would share my views on the issue.

Oh dear.
People are concerning.
I also totally disagree with the idea of chaplains in public schools that aren’t based around religion.
